Wheel of Time risk
Ok, now we actually have a place to talk about making this map. I'm going back to work on the terrain now so I'll just let you post ideas for it here.
Fatty, a RTS map would take too long and none of us have any idea of how todo it.
Maybe we'll do that another time.

Re: Wheel of Time risk
OK, since you're doing the terraining, I thought I'd try and help by posting some tutorials that have taught me a lot about terraining.
First, the basics This has just about everything you'd ever want to know about terraining.
Some highlights are - how to make rivers, lowering/rising doodads, shortcuts (really makes terraining quicker) and editting doodads themselves.
Any questions ever? Just email me, PM me here or reply to this post. Once you're ready, I'll also try and explain to you how you should add risk bases, empire spawns etc using Priwin's triggers.
One other thing, I suggest NOT using Blizzard's cliffs for hills. They are quite an eye sore. Instead, follow the instructions at the bottom of this post concerning the MiscData.txt . It will allow you raise/lower the terrain limitlessly!
Then there's the Ultimate Terraining Map, it has tons and tons of useful doodads and is used by a lot terrainers, like WoW RISK. And the Ultimate Terraining Tutorial was very helpful to me as well. Its more about how to create a realistic terrain, where as the first tutorial I listed was about how to utilize all the tools of the editor in creating a terrain.
You can find the Ultiamte Terraining Map and Ultimate Terraining Tutorial in the link I just posted, [url=this one.
Edit: Also! The current map size limit is 256X256. Depending on how big you want the map, this should be more then enough. However... if you really want a big freakin huge map then you'll have to download and install JNPG, found here.
http://www.wc3c.net/showthread.php?t=90999
I really suggest you use JNPG for its tile function alone. With it, you can make ANY tile unwalkable or unflyable or unbuildable, and vice versa. You can also raise the limit of usable tiles from, I think it's 13?, to around 26.
Here's a link on how to setup and configure JNPG
It also has a working download link for JNPG and Jasshelper, I think the original one listed above may be broken...
http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/miscellaneous-tutorials-456/how-download-install-confige-jngp-160547/
It took me quite a while to discover all these useful resources, and if you're serious about this and really spend the time to look into these links, I know it will prove invaluable in making your map . HAPPY MAPPING!

Thanks for the links, I oughta try out that one about the Terraining later, maybe be of some use xD So I may be up to help with the terraining after, just give me some time.
Re: Wheel of Time risk
Terraining is actually pretty fun and it's quick to learn. You just got to know what 'good enough' is or you'll waste hours over something that the player might not even notice.

Re: Wheel of Time risk
Kinda like the stuff that used to be on the outside of Outland in Outland Risk? Or the little islands on AW and DaoW? Those often go unnoticed.
Re: Wheel of Time risk
If it is landable i bet it has been noticed... when you die in daow, just flee and establish a base from where you can raid the coasts for cpsNavySeal wrote:Kinda like the stuff that used to be on the outside of Outland in Outland Risk? Well you would be right because of the great detail and time that went into making those islands, but the islands are actually SUPPOSED to be instances... so its kinda different.

Re: Wheel of Time risk
Only saw 1 instance worked... First version, then they were just there, then taken out of the game. They looked great, and I always wanted to use them.

Then you must not have played Outland Risk for at least a week, probably two

Well it wasn't really a deep question was it? I wasn't going to give a paragraph response when it was an obvious answer and it only required me saying duh to answer it.fattythefat wrote:nice spam... btw why dont i have access to modify this forum?Nickel510 wrote:Duh...

Edit: and echoes when is the date of this maps start? cause if its before the 1st book, then many of the dragons factions arent in the map, but if it is after the10th book many old factions will have been conquered/changed

I would say Echoes alone has admin over this forum, 'cause he likes it like that.

Re: Wheel of Time risk
Well, we can decide that over the next week while I don't have acess to warcraft
Re: Wheel of Time risk
Why not start at a point when you have the most factions? That would be far easier.
Re: Wheel of Time risk

Terrible, i started against after i got that JNPG or whatever it is, otherwise there wasnt enuf room for Seanchan
Re: Wheel of Time risk
You didn't have to start over you know? You could have just expanded your old map, unless you just wanted to completely start over and make everything bigger.
